8VBMW3 Maintenance of Assigned Vehicles
4. The oldest, and most wive and difficult to maintain,
are the three Marcum. for wtample, the car assigned to the Deputy
Director for Intelligence had a motor overhaul in February 1965
which cost $357.00. This we* included cleaning carbon, grinding
valves, new main and rod bearings, renewed ignition wires, over-
hauled peer steering, and various other operations to recondition
the motor. Yn view of the age of those *ara and the mileages they
have built up, it can be expeerted that they will mire more and
more maintenance and repair work to keep than in running condition.
The following a sees can be e? pected at any time in the future.
'these figures include parts and labor:
Rebuild motor $98.00
Replace transmission - *198.00
Replace starter - 43T-69
Replace alternator - $12,.25
addition to the above, we can a ct to have trouble with the
air conditioners, radiators, brake inders, fuel pumps, water
pumps, etc., as well as body work and repainting.
5. It in r ed that the three Mercury sedans be turned
in and replaced by the same type of vehicles now being used by the
Erteautive Director-atroll,er and the euty to the DI I for National

I have had further discussions with
the Director about the purchase of a
new limousine and he has decided that
we should not press this issue at this
time. We therefore should take all
necessary and appropriate steps to
ensure that the limousine he now uses
is kept in excellent condition because
we may well be using it for a long time
to come.
