This memorandum is for your information only. DD/S 66-6566 14 DEC 1966 2. Because we have had a number of nominees but no successful candidates for the Rockefeller Award, I suggested and you agreed that we try to talk to someone in the administration of the Rockefeller Awards Program to obtain some guidance as to future nominations. We found that. Mr. Knoche is acquainted with Mr. van de Velde and will take the earliest convenient opportunity to discuss the subject with him. Attached is Mr. Echols' memorandum, dated 8 December 1966, which explains the plan. Miss I lexplained to Mr. Knoche the kind of information we hoped to obtain a ou the type of nominees who might be given favorable consideration for the Rockefeller Award. Mr. Knoche readily agreed to take this matter up with Mr. van de Velde at the earliest convenient opportunity. 3. Since it will be some months before we are again invited to nomi- nate for this award, we have not asked Mr. Knoche to set a particular dead- line for reporting the results of his conversation. We have, however, placed it in suspense for a follow-up with Mr. Knoche about 15 February 1967.
