REFERENCE . Memo fr DDS to D/Log dtd 23 Jul 68, Subject:
Requests for Retirement Date Extensions
1. This memorandum requests guidance concerning the require-
ment established by referent memorandum for "OMS clearance" on
retirement extensions.
2. Specifically, do you expect the Director of Personnel to
monitor extension cases to ensure that there is a medical evalua-
tion? If so, do you mean for this requirement to apply only in
the Support Services or Agency-wide? If you mean the latter, I think
we need a policy issuance to the other Deputy Directors to be sure
that we have their agreement to comply with such a, policy. We will
be glad to prepare such a memorandum if desired. Given this, I see
no problem in setting up a. mechanism in our Retirement Division
to ensure that evaluations are of record before an extension is
presented to the Retirement Board for concurrence.
