1. Your appro al is requested for the establis nt of a sux r
intern program in the Iangxage School.
2. Chief., L .ngw School has proposed a program of s:ter interns
graduate students in linguistics and hanguagee --- to begin the sumwr
of CY 1973. This proposal corresponds closely with the fairly extensive
suer intern program conducted in the Directorate of Intelligence, It
is proposed that ve begin next suer with one intern and tin expaulcl
the program to two or three in the eur+ r of l974, dependent, of course,
on our success with the first intern.

the campuses.
In the recruiting process, we will., develop closer
relations with the L-mmiage elements of academic
Institutions.

5. Specifically in the Language School the interns would be put
to such tasks as preparing language proficiency test models or actual
teats, preparing units or modules of instruction for specialized
subJects or self-study programs, assisting in the preparation of
language tapes, and doing research on language learning problems.
6. In order to begin the recruitment process, we will require
an approval no later than the end of November 1972.
