MOSLEM WORLD COVERAGE--In response to the
latest high-level interest in improving our coverage of
the Moslem areas of South Asia, today we placed orders
with OCR/AB for subscriptions to 6 Urdu-, 1 Sindhi- and
two English-language dailies from Pakistan and 4 Bengali-
and 2 English-language dailies from Bangladesh. Two
Urdu-language dailies and 2 English-language dailies from
Pakistan are to be procured by direct air mail. We also
alerted Admin Staff to be on the lookout for qualified
applicants in these languages. JPRS is also checking into
the possibility of using one of their contractors to scan
the foreign language papers on order until the time when we
have our own capability. In the meantime NEAAD will step
up its exploitation of the English press of these countries.
