1. The referent memorandum announced that Mr. Bruce
T. Johnson, Director of Data Processing (D/ODP), had been
designated Senior Management Official for Federal Infor-
mation Processing Standards in this Agency. The meNorandun
also highlighted the recent and proposed activities of the
U.S. Department of Commerce (USDC) and National Bureau of
Standards CUBS) to revitalize the Federal Information
Processing Standards, PIPS PUBS. The attachments to the
reference contained: details about these matters.
2. The Assistant Secretary for Science and Technology,
USDC, asked D/ODP to review and comment on their Computer
Science and Technology Plan, especially those aspects where
this Agency has an interest, and also, to review and comment
on their Guide for the Implementation of Federal Informa-
tion Processing Standards for Acquisition and Design of
Computer Products and Services. Comments were solicited
on both the organization and usefulness of the Guide.

3. I have attached a copy of the two documents
for your review. Would you send me your comments on
them by 11 June 1979 so that I can develop an Agency
response to NBS.
