SUBJECT House Select Committee (HSC) Interviews
Please make certain that all of your employees are
aware of the following. HSC has no objection to someone
from the Agency accompanying persons called for inter-
views so long as their presence is requested by the
interviewee as his personal advisor and does not repre-
sent CIA. An interviewee will be asked specifically if
he wants the advisor present. In cases of questionable
activities, HSC will want the interviewee to have
genuine legal counsel, not an Agency advisor. HSC will
review the advisor's role if they suspect that his
presence muffles free speech by the interviewee.

SUBJECT: HSC Interviews
T discussed with Searle Field the need for someane
from the.Agericy (and from a host agency for detailees) to
accompany persons called for interviews. Field had no
objection so long as their presence was requested by the
interviewee as his personal advisor and did not represent
CIA or the host agency. The interviewee would be asked
specifically if lie tivanted them present. In cases of
questionable adtivities they would want the interviewee
to have genuine legal coun~ely not an Agency advisor.
