1. The export pipeline is the Soviets' first order of business after
finishing a domestic pipeline in the next few weeks. The Soviets
have prepared the right of way for the export line and are now moving
equipment along the route. To the best of our knowledge, no pnZ;x
portion of the line has amy taiib m actually been laid to this date.
2. The Soviets have signed enough pipe and equipment contracts to
begin the line. Roughly $9 billion in contracts have been signed
thus far; including those for pipe, compressor station equipment and
other equipment for laying, the line. Additional purchases are
outstanding, but the vast bulk of imports required have been ordered.
