SUBJECT Support for ADCI Briefing of SSG

1. Admiral Inman will attend the SSG meeting on Poland scheduled
for 1100 on Saturday, 2 January. He has been tasked to brief the Group
on the following:
--Soviet reactions to measures against them already announced
by the President.

2. I request that you and analysts from SOYA/NFAC prepare the
required briefing for the Admiral. To meet the Saturday morning deadline,
a clean draft should be available in the Operations Center by noon tomorrow,
1 January. Bob Gates will come in tomorrow afternoon to review the draft.
The Operatiens Center will provide a typist to prepare the final briefing,
which should be sent to Admiral Inman with his Saturday morning material.
You and the SOYA analysts should be available both tomorrow aftern^and
Saturday morning to answer any questions regarding the briefing.
3. I wish to emphasize that the additional measures being considered
by the President are extremely sensitive. The attached copy of the pro-
posed measures, therefore, should be handled on an eyes only basis and
shown only to those who have an absolute need to know for the production
of the briefing.) I
