1. Admiral Murphy, Special Assistant to Vice President
Bush, asked the Executive Director for briefings by CIA on
the Latin American narcotics situation. Vice President Bush
is Chairman of the President's Commission on Crime which is
currently focusing on the drug/crime situation in South Florida.
2. After discus?ina this request with Admiral Murphy's
'Special Assistant, IAD Ihas organized a program for
Admiral Murphy for 1500-1700 hours on 11 March at the
Executive Office Building. DDI representatives will deliver
three 20-minute segments on
a. Mexico, opium production estimates and crop
methodology;
b. Cocaine and marijuana production in Peru,
Bolivia, Colombia, and Jamaica;
c. Trafficking networks, patterns, routes,
political instability, arms/drugs linkage, and possible
Cuban linkages.
IAD will brief on narcotics money laundering activities and
CLA will represent LA Division should the Admiral have
questions concerning operations, programs, or possible
commitment of LA Division support.
