1. Admiral Bill. Mott, Editor of the American Bar Association's Law and
National Security Subcommittee Intelligence Report called today to ask for a
briefing on South Africa. The details are as follows:
-- in the near future, Mott along with four officers of the Synthetic
Fuels Corporation will be visiting South Africa to look into that
country's synthetic fuels production; other members of the entourage
are: Ed Nobel, Chairman ofthe ABA's Council on Economics and National
Security; Vick Schrader, President of the Synthetic Fuels Corporation;
Lyn Axelrod, Synthetic Fuels Corporation Technician; and Ray f'Cline,
former Agency employee now at Georgetown University;

briefing;
-- Specifically, the briefing requested is to cover, in an unclassified
manner, South Africa in general as well as any problems the group might
anticipate in terms of their visit to that country.
2. Please advise as to whether or not we can accommodate. It would be
in our interest to do the briefing given the relationship we have with Mott
and the ABA. While Admiral Mott did not specify a specific time, I would
appreciate a response as soon as possible as to whether or not we can ful-
fill the request. At that time, I will arrange the details of time and place.

SUBJECT : Congressional Leadership Briefings
1. After much hauling and pulling today, we have a revised schedule for
your appearances before the Congressional Leadership to testify on El Salvador.
Senior Members from the House are scheduled to meet at 11:30 tomorrow in 5-407.
The senior Members of the Senate are scheduled to meet at 1400 on Friday.
2. At this point, only you are scheduled to appear. We have not been
able to ask the Director what his plans will be. The operative question is:
Do you wish to have the whole troop accompany you? I believe I know your
