1. The Foreign Service Act of 1980, Section 901(5)
authorizes medical travel while abroad for necessary treatment of
a "medical condition" as well as travel by certain non-attendant
family members. Following the rules being applied to Foreign
Service personnel of the Department of State the Agency intends
to allow medical travel for dental treatment that cannot be
postponed until the end of a tour as well as for travel by such
as infants or young dependents incapable of self care if left
behind at post. The adoption of these benefits for Agency
personnel will achieve equity with the
Foreign Service and the costs have been planned for through the
appropriate budgetary process.
2. Attached are copies of the Agency's travel regulation
covering these benefits.
