Please submit this proposal to the appropriate Congressional oversight committees for their required review and advise the results in our established procedure. The Foreign Service Act of 1980, Section 901(5) authorizes medical travel while abroad for necessary treatment of a "medical condition" as well as travel by certain non-attendant family members. Following the rules being applied to Foreign Service personnel of the Department of State the Agency intends to allow medical travel for dental treatment that cannot be postponed until the end of a tour as well as for travel by such as infants or young dependents incapable of self care if left behind at post. The adoption of these benefits for Agency personnel will achieve equity with the Foreign Service and the costs have been planned for through the appropriate budgetary process. 2. Attached are copies of the Agency's travel regulation covering these benefits.
