As per our conversation, I am sending you the
quotations that I would like to use in my
forthcoming second volume of memoirs. Dick
Allen has notified me of the White House
approval of this material but wanted me to run
them by you.
Much of it consists of intelligence assessments
prior to the outbreak of the October 1973 Middle
East war. The substance of almost all of this
is already in the public domain, for example
in the leaked copy of the Pike Committee report,
William Quandt's book Decade of Decisions, and
Marvin and Bernard Kalb's book Kissinger. If
you have difficulty with the identification of
these as CIA reports, I am prepared to identify
them more loosely as "intelligence" reports.
If possible, I hope this can be settled
expeditiously since I am up against a publisher's
deadline. I am very grateful for your assistance.
