on 18 November 1980 and was advised he would be called on
19 November 1980. On that date, the Acting Director of Medical
Services,
advised him by phone that the
Agency was trying to ascertain if he had been exposed and dis-
cussed the status of the U.S. Government effort regarding Agent
Orange. The Agency had been monitoring developments in the
Agent Orange controversy since the formation of the Health and

had again called and had been informed that
he had not been exposed to Agent Orange.
On 26 June 1981 the Office of Medical Services reconfirmed
December 1965 as the date of initial use of Agent Orange in Laos
with the Office of Research and Engineering, Secretary of Defense.
It should be noted that Agent Orange has yet to be con-
clusively implicated as a cause of any medical problem other
than a severe skin condition under circumstances of heavy
exposure. There is b an unconfirmed association with lymphoma
and soft tissue sarcoma which are both cancers. No case yet
has been made for an association of Agent Orange with the
medical condition reported
As requested, the correspondence enclosed with your June 18,
1981, letter is being returned. Also enclosed are copies of the
two responses sent by this agency to
and December'1980.
Sincerely,
