FP 91 9 1981 OTE REGISTR 81 `76 qY Dear Mr. Casey: Inclosed are the "Proceedings for the Twentieth International Affairs Symposium." The Symposium was conducted by the School of International Studies at the United States Army Institute for Military Assistance. Such Symposia are held twice annually as the culminating exercises of the Institute's Foreign Area Officer (FAO) Courses. Complete background information on these Symposia is contained in Appendix A to the inclosed booklet. The Symposium addressed the theme "The Challenge of the 1980's-- Regional Perspectives." Following the Keynote Address by Lieutenant General Daniel 0. Graham (Ret), Co-Chairman, Coalition for Peace Through Strength, four workshops convened to discuss issues related to East Asia Economics and Security, East-West Economic Interdepen- dence, The Middle East, and Central American Stability and Develop- ment. The workshops produced some excellent, thought-provoking ideas, conclusions, and recommendations. The "Proceedings" are provided in the belief that it is beneficial to share the fruits of such efforts with individuals and agencies sharing our interests in national security affairs.
