SUBJECT: Direct Broadcast Satellites
1. The attached correspondence proposes certain governmental initatives
to determine the feasibility of using direct broadcast satellites for US
Government-sponsored international broadcasting. The DDCI would like to take
a specific position, for or against with respect to the actions proposed by
the Executive Secretary of the IG. II
2. Please have the attached papers reviewed by the appropriate
persons/elements within your organizations to ascertain the impact or
implications, if any, of the proposed initiatives and the larger DBS program
with respect to your agency's mission, programs and capabilities. A
recommendation on the position to be adopted by the DCI regarding the actions
proposed by the IG Executive Secretary is requested.
3. Please provide your inputs to me by COB 7 October.
