SUBJECT: Optical Character Recognition Seminar
1. On 4 and 5 May, of the Intelligence Community
Staff will host an Optical arac e Recognition Seminar in the CIA
Auditorium. This seminar is available to members of the entire
Intelligence Community including contractors who may be doing work in
this area. Originally, it was intended that the session on 4 May be
classified at the Secret level and that the session on 5 May be entirely
unclassified. It has now been determined that both the 4 and 5 May 1982
sessions will be unclassified.
2. Fliers publicizing the seminar have been sent throughout the
Intelligence Community together with a proposed agenda. A copy of the
announcement and the agenda is attached for your information. From this
material, responses have been received from 80 people to date indicating
a desire to attend. A roster of these people is also attached for your
records.
3. On Monday 26 April 1982, a circular was also distributed
throughout the Central Intelligence Agency inviting any one within the
Agency who is interested in attending. To date, a limited response has
been received. The names of those who have shown a desire to attend are
included in the rosted cited in paragraph 2.
4. By the end of this week, a full roster of those who will attend
should be available. At this point, it is anticipated that the seminar
will attract no more than 100 persons, both internally and outside of
,the Agency. As you can see from the agenda, no special parking
privileges are required except perhaps for the guest speakers.

Attendees from outside the Agency have been told that they must park in
the West Lot, allowing themselves 10 minutes walking time to the
auditorium. Luncheon arrangements for participants from outside of the
Agency are not required as they have been told that they must go off the
CIA compound if they desire lunch. Further details will be provided as
they develop.
