1. SIGNIFICANCE: THE PROBABLE ARMORED UNIT, SEEN
IS NOW CONFIRMED AS A TANK BATTALION.
(SWN)
2. REMARKS: AT LEAST 15 MEDIUM TANKS AND ONE ARMORED RECOVERY
VEHICLE ARE PRESENT. MOST CF THE TANKS ARE CANVAS COVERED.
OTHER ECUIPt.1ENT IN CARRISON INCLUDES SIX BTR-60PB ARMORED
PERSONNEL CARRIERS (APC), 50 W-50 CARGO TRUCKS, AND FIVE OTHER
VEHICLES. VEHICLE STORAGE SHEDS NEAR THE TANKS ARE STILL UNDER
CONSTRUCTION. (SWN)
IT CANNOT BE DETERMINED IF THIS TANK BATTALION IS A NEW UNIT
FORMED WITH EQUIPMENT WHICH HAS ENTERED NICARAGUA UNDETECTED,
OR IF IT IS A KNOWN TANK BATTALION WHICH HAS RELOCATED.
HOWEVER, THE NEW SHED CONSTRUCTION, THE ARRIVAL OF THE TANKS
PRIOR TO CGMPLETICN OF THE SHEDS, AND THE CONTINUED CANVAS
COVERING OF THE EQUIPMENT SUGCESTS IT IS A NEW TANK BATTALION.
LA QUEBRADITA IS ON THE SOUTHERN EDGE OF MANAGUA. (SWN)
