1. SIGNIFICANCE: AT LEAST TWO SA-6 BATTERIES ARE OPERATIONALLY
DEPLOYED IMMEDIATELY NORTHWEST AND SOUTHEAST OF THE AIRFIELD.

2. REMARKS: EQUIPMENT OBSERVED ON PARTIAL COVERAGE INCLUDES SEVEN
SA-6 TEL, TWO STRAIGHT FLUSH RADAR, ONE SA-6 TRANSLOADER, AND
AT LEAST 12 SUPPORT VEHICLES. OTHER AIR DEFENSE EQUIPMENT
AROUND THE AIRFIELD INCLUDES AN SA-9 UNIT AND A ZSU-23/4 UNIT.
OTHER UNITS AT AOZOU INCLUDE A TANK COMPANY AND AN ARTILLERY
BATTERY AT A SUPPORT AREA NORTH OF THE RUNWAY. THIS IS THE
FURTHEST SOUTH THAT LIBYAN SA-6 UNITS HAVE DEPLOYED DURING THE
RECENT COMBAT/SUPPORT OPERATIONS. (SWN)
AOZOU IS IN CENTRAL LIBYAN-CLAIMED CHAD APPROXIMATELY 50 NM
SOUTH OF THE LIBYA-CHAD BORDER. (SWN)
