1. SIGNIFICANCE: PROBABLE FRENCH-BUILT GCT SELF-PROPELLED
HOWITZERS AND ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIERS HAVE ARRIVED AT
QADIMAH PORT FACILITIES. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: SIX PROBABLE FRENCH 155MM GCT SELF-PROPELLED
HOWITZERS (SPG), TWO PROBABLE FRENCH AMX-10 ARMORED PERSONNEL
CARRIERS (APC), AND ONE PROBABLE ARMORED VEHICLE ARE ON THE
MOLE. THIS EQUIPMENT, WHICH HAS ARRIVED F_ I 25X1
AND WAS DELIVERED BY AN UNKNOWN CARRIER, IS PROBABLY DESTINED
FOR TRANSSHIPMENT TO IRAQ. THE 155MM GCT SPG, WHICH IS BASED
ON A MODIFIED AMX-30 MAIN BATTLE TANK CHASSIS, WAS FIRST
IDENTIFIED IN IRAQ NINE 155MM GCT SPG AND 12 25X1
AMX-10 APC WERE DELIVERED TO QADIMAH IN AUGUST 1982. THE
POSSIBILITY EXISTS; HOWEVER, THAT THE EQUIPMENT COULD REMAIN IN
SAUDI ARABIA. AT LEAST THIRTY 155MM GCT SPG ARE IN THE SAUDI
INVENTORY. (SWN)
A TOTAL OF 161 HEAVY-LIFT TRANSPORTERS/TRUCKS (INCLUDING THOSE
LOADED WITH THE 34 TYPE-59/69-2 TANKS, WHICH WERE BEING
OFFLOADED HAVE DEPARTED THE TRANSSHIPMENT 25X1
AREA OF Q . THIRTY-FOUR TYPE-59/69-2 TANKS WHICH ARRIVED
AT BAGHDAD BARRACKS SCHOOL CORPS BATTALION HEAD UAR POT,
RASHID, IRAQ ARE 25X1
PROBABLY THE SAME TANKS OBSERVED QADIMAH (SWN) 25X1
