1. SIGNIFICANCE: A PROTOTYPE SAM LAUNCHER IS NEWLY IDENTIFIED.
(SWN)
2. REMARKS: THE PROTOTYPE MOBILE LAUNCHER IS IN LAUNCH AREA B AND
APPEARS TO CONSIST OF A CSA-1 LAUNCH RAIL AND BLAST DEFLECTOR
MOUNTED ON A TRACKED CHASSIS. THE TRACKED CHASSIS MEASURES
APPROXIMATELY 7 BY 3 METERS AND MENSURATION OF THE LAUNCH RAIL
AND BLAST DEFLECTOR CONFORMS TO KNOWN DIMENSIONS OF THE CSA-1
LAUNCHER. IT IS UNCERTAIN WHETHER THE CHINESE INTEND TO LAUNCH
A CSA-1 OR SHUANG-A MISSILE FROM THE LAUNCHER; HOWEVER, IN
EITHER CASE THE TRACKED CHASSIS WOULD PROVIDE ENHANCED
MOBILITY. THE LAUNCH VEHICLE IS PROBABLY UNDERGOING
FEASIBILITY TESTING AT LAUNCH AREA B, AND SINCE IT IS CABLE
CONNECTED TO THE UNDERGROUND CONTROL BUNKER, AN ACTUAL LAUNCH
MAY BE FORTHCOMING. (SWN)
