1. SIGNIFICANCE: THE SL-Y LAUNCH VEHICLE IS POSSIBLY UNDERGOING
PRELIMINARY PREPARATIONS FOR ITS INITIAL LAUNCH. (SWN)
2. REMARKS: THE SL-Y LAUNCH VEHICLE IS ERECT, AND, THE ERECTING
MECHANISM IS UPRIGHT AND STILL ATTACHED. NO VAPORS OR
CRYOGENIC ICING OF THE AIRFRAME IS OBSERVED. PROPELLANT
RAILCARS ARE AT THE CRYOGEN STORAGE AREA AND ON A NEARBY RAIL
SPUR LEADING INTO THE LAUNCH SITE. THE 40-ELEMENT ANTENNA AT
TYURATAM ICBM TEST SUPPORT FACILITY 3 IS 25X1
ORIENTED TOWARD THE LAUNCH SITE. THIS IS PROBABLY THE FIRST
TIME THE 40-ELEMENT ANTENNA HAS BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE LAUNCH
SITE. (SWN)
THE SL-Y IS ONE OF TWO NEW SPACE LAUNCH VEHICLES BEING
DEVELOPED AT TYURATAM AND WILL PROBABLY BE THE FIRST TO USE
HIGH ENERGY PROPELLANTS. (SWN)
