1. GOSTOMEL AIRFIELD WAS FIRST REPORTED ON
TIME THE AIRFIELD, LOCATED 22 NM NW OF KIYEV, CONSISTED OF A 4,500
X 3,500 FT E/W SERVICEABLE SOD LANDING AREA AND AN 8000 X 130 FT
WNW/ESE GRADED EARTH RUNWAY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THIS RUNWAY WAS
REPORTED COMPLETE AND SERVICEABLE BY JUN 62. FOURTEEN SUBSEQUENT
MISSIONS REPORTED NO CHANGE IN THE AIRFIELD'S FACILITIES AND COUNTS
OF FROM 3-30 TRANSPORT-TYPE AIRCRAFT WERE REPORTED.
2. CONTINUED ANALYSIS OF REVEALED 1 COCK (AN-22), 8
PROBABLE CAT/CUB, 3 MEDIUM STRAIGHT WING, 1 SMALL STRAIGHT WING AND
10 POSSIBLE SMALL STRAIGHT WING AIRCRAFT.
3. ON 18 AUG 65 A MOSCOW TV FILM, SHOWN AS PART OF THE SOVIET AIR FORCE
DAY CELEBRATION, ENTITLED, "WINGED DEFENSE OF THE FATHERLAND," REVEALED
THE AN-22 LANDING ON WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SOD/GRADED EARTH RUNWAY.
ANOTHER RECENT SOVIET PRESS RELEASE REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT REQUIRES
4,300 FT FOR TAKEOFF, BUT ONLY 2,600 FT FOR LANDING.
