REMARKS: ROCKET ENGINE TEST FACILITY VORONEZH USSR 7 June 19157 Page 1 Copy 1 TEST ACTIVITY IS EVIDENT AT TEST STAND NO 1, TEST STAND NO 2, AND AT ONE OF THE HORIZONTAL TEST CELL POSITIONS. THE OLDEST TEST CELL BUILDING IS UNDERGOING MODIFICATION. 5 NM SOUTH OF VORONEZH. THIS TEST FACILITY WAS OPERATIONAL WHEN FIRST OBSERVED IN 1960 AND CONTAINED ONE HORIZONTAL TEST CELL BUILDING. THIS TEST BUILDING WAS SIMILAR TO OTHER HORIZONTAL TEST BUILDINGS LOCATED AT THE'UFA, ZELENOGORSK, FAUSTOVO, AND NIZHNYAYA SALDA TEST FACILITIES. DURING 1962 THE VORONEZH FACILITY BEGAN AN EXTENSIVE EXPAN- SION PROGRAM WHICH RESULTED IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF ANOTHER HORIZONTAL TEST BUILDING, TWO VERTICAL TEST STANDS, THEIR SUPPORTING FACILITIES, AND OTHER BUILDINGS NEEDED THROUGHOUT THE COMPLEX TO BACK UP THEfiINCREASED STATIC FIRING CAPABILITY. These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work. Their use should be restricted to the particular briefing board(s) they were prepared for and must be considered valid only for the re- porting period as indicated by the date of issue. TEST STAND NO 1 APPEARED OUTWARDLY COMPLETE IN MID 64 AND WAS OBSERVED OPERATIONAL IN MAR 65, TEST STAND NO 2 (WHICH APPEARS'TO BE DESIGNED FOR ALTITUDE SIMULATION TESTING) APPEARED OUTWARDLY COMPLETE IN MID-65 AND 'JUST RECENTLY WAS OBSERVED OPERA- TIONAL. MISSION READOUT: A DARK BLAST MARK IS VISIBLE ON THE EMBANKMENT AT THE END OF THE DIFFUSER AT TEST STAND NO 2. THIS STAND IS ALMOST AN EXACT DUPLICATE OF TEST STAND NO 2 AT THE PERM ROCKET ENGINE TEST FACILITY. I CONSIDERABLE EARTH SCARRING FROM TEST ACTIVITY IS EVIDENT AT TEST STAND NO 1. THE WESTERNMOST TEST CELL OF THE OLDEST TEST CELL BUILDING IS UNDERGOING ALTERATION, THE BLAST PIT HAS BEEN PARTIALLY FILLED WITH EARTH AND A CONSTRUCTION CRANE IS IN OPERATION NEARBY,! THE EARTHEN REVETMENT FOR 2 PROBABLE HORIZONTAL TEST POSITIONS HAS BEEN REMOVED, THE REMAINING BLAST PIT AT THE OLDEST TEST CELL BUILDING CONTAINS DARK STAINS FROM CONTINUING TEST ACTIVITY. SIX RAIL CARS AND A PROBABLE TANK CAR ARE AT THE AIR LIQUEFACTION PLANT, TWO TANK CARS ARE AT THE POSSIBLE PROPELLANT STORAGE HANDLING BUILDING NEAR TEST STANDS 1 AND 2, CONSTRUCTION IS NEARING COMPLETION ON A LARGE ADMINISTRATION BUILDING NEAR THE CENTER OF THE FACILITY, NO MISSILES OR MISSILE EQUIPMENT OBSERVED, These notes have been prepared for briefing purposes only and should not be used for detailed analytical work.
