IN 195k, IT WAS TAKEN OVER BY THE EGYPTIAN AIR FORCE. THE NE/SW RUNWAY WAS LENGTHENED AND NEW TAXIWAYS ADDED IN 1956/57. FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS TIE AIRFIELD HAS GRADUALLY BEEN IMPROVED. DIA FREE WORLD ORDER OF BATTLE;, 1 FEB 67, CARRIES 12-FISHBED OF THE 19Th FIGHTER SQUADRON AND 12 FISHBED OF AN UNIDENTIFIED FIGHTER SQUADRON AT INCHAS. REMARKS: ABU SUWEIR IS THE PRIMARY EGYPTIAN BEAGLE BASE. 4. COLLATERAL: ABtJ SUWEIR WAS A PRE-1939 RAF AIRFIELD EQUIPPED WITH PERMANENT BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES FOR USE AS A FLYING TRAINING SCHOOL.
