SUBJECT: New Afghanistan Map Series
1. I am enclosing an advance copy of the first printed map in
our seven-map Landsat series on Afghanistan and the Northwest Frontier
province of Pakistan. As you know, this series is being produced in
support of the DO and the Embassy in Islamabad. is STAT
providing valuable assistance to us in this endeavor, and we want you
to be one of the first to see the results of his efforts.
2. Final editions of this map will have an extensive gazetteer
printed on the back. The gazetteer will include two alphabetized
lists of names - English to Dari and Dari to English. We would be
unable to fill the DO's request Dari names on the face of the map
and in the gazetteer without expert help. We sincerely STAT
appreciate his efforts and your in eres in this important project.
