Special Coverage
When requested by Agency components, FBIS can provide special
coverage to dovetail with. particular needs. On 19 July the DOts Central
America Task Force requested urgent FBIS processing of 19 July ceremonies
in Nicaragua marking the third anniversary of the Sandinista revolution.
The Task Force was preparing a special report that was to be completed
by 0500 hours on 20 July. To meet the Task Force publication deadline,
the FBIS Panama Bureau kept personnel on duty overnight to complete
processing of the broadcasts which featured speeches by the Venezuelan
president and various Nicaraguan leaders. j
Cuban Activities
FBIS has been asked to participate in the Active Measures Subgroup
on Cuba which has been established at State/INR to develop countermeasures
to anti-U.S. propaganda emanating from Cuba. State said FBIS was the
main source of information on what Cuba is saying about the United
States. The monthly meetings will be attended by an officer from the
FBIS Analysis Group.
Interviews With Emigres
Two FBIS analysts. recently interviewed a sociologist from the
Soviet Union and a journalist from Poland in emigre debriefings set up
The interviews are part of a series arranged by FBIS and
to provide information on key party and media figures in the Soviet and
East European area. The Polish journalist also provided insi hts into
the editorial process in the Polish press and television. .11
