A recent review of the DI budget for FY83 and following years indicates that we have a serious problem. We cannot afford to buy enough delta data 7260 terminals to meet DI needs for SAFE and non-SAFE uses. I would like to enlist your assistance in solving this problem-as soon as possible. 2. My staff has reviewed possible solutions with your staff, and as a result we have come up with four recommendations which deserve consideration: a. Attempt to get the cost of the delta data reduced by 50 percent to bring its cost in line with that of other terminals which can be purchased today. b. Continue to use the delta data 5260 and allow the DI to acquire 5260 units which other directorates declare excess. c. Eliminate the TEMPEST requirement for delta data terminals in the Headquarters building, if in fact such a requirement exists. d. Negotiate with a new vendor for a less expensive terminal to be supported by VM and SAFE in addition to the delta data. reviewed and some sort of policy established. STAT 3. We are ready to discuss these recommendations in detail with you or your s f. The contact point for such discussions is hief, Analytic Support Group. Regardless of th ch may be taken to solve this problem, I request that the TEMPEST situation for Headquarters terminals be Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/12 : CIA-RDP85-00142R000100160004-2 15 FEB 1983 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/12 : CIA-RDP85-00142R000100160004-2 ADMINISTRATIVE INTERNAL USE ONLY Distribution: C/PMS D/ALA D/OEA D/EURA D/NESA D/SOVA D/OGI D/OIA D/OSWR D/OCR D/CPAS DD/P/ODP hnMTMTCmDamrvc T-1m L'rm , r.nr, Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/12 : CIA-RDP85-00142R000100160004-2
