Supercomputers Chief, Planning and Policy Staff, Intelligence Conmunity Staff, forwarded to CIA a set of questions on Agency supercomputer use and Government policy to encourage domestic development of supercomputers. The questions were developed by a Government task force on supercomputers, chaired by the Office of Science and Technology Policy. is the Intelligence Community representative on the task force. ODP was tasked by the Executive Secretariat to prepare a coordinated Agency response. The reply emphasized the lack of concrete Agency supercomputer acquisition plans at this time and Agency security concerns about the potential lack of domestic supercomputer sources. 2. SAFE Early Capability The first of two DIA Early Capability processors was delivered on 8 February and the second was delivered on 9 February. Both processors will be installed by 11 February. 3. SAFE Integrated Capabilities On 1 February, the Contract Review Board/OL approved the D/ODP's recommendation that Geodynamics Corporation be awarded the SAFE Quality Assurance Contract. Significant Events During Coming Week The SAFE Integrated Capabilities System Design Review (SDR) will be held on 14-16 February at the TRW facility at Tysons Corner. The number of people who wished to attend substantially exceeded the capacity of the conference room. As a result, several organizations in DIA and CIA were asked to out back the number of representatives they had intended to send. This list was passed to TRW Security on 10 February.
