Burroughs Corporation provided interested Agency components a briefing on the status of their optical disk memory product development. The briefing, which was sponsored by ODP, was well attended by a cross section of Agency components. The briefer was Mr. Solomon Ebrahim, the Manager of Market Analysis and Planning, Optical Memory Engineering. from the Burroughs Corporation Westlake, California, facility. Finance. As of 6 December, $28,486 was outstanding in 68 advances to ODP travelers. None of the advances were delinquent. Pro'ect tivity Report. This includes 383,037 master file records and 440,000 index file records in almost 500,000 GIM records makin the ACTS data base second in size only to CAMS. It was revealed during this meeting that over two million dollars worth of Wang equipment was negotiated during November, which included 237 workstations and 94 printers. Cumulative figures to date STAT Special Projects Staff personnel have indicated that multiplexor STAT capacity is insufficient to support 17 terminals for EC. OC and representatives were asked to define the problem and STAT to eve op a set of options. In discussions with the Quality Assurance Segment, it was decided that QAS would explore the availability of funds ($43,000) for multiplexor equipment and that ASG would revisit terminal requirements for STAT Once a decisi i eached, OC will be contacted and coordinated with. Liaison with NSA Three representatives from NSA's Data Processing Operations Group are currently visiting with Operations Division personnel. The visit is related to a planned program to exchange ideas and information between the two organizations. NSA personnel are being briefed on ODP's mission, Computer Center requirements, hardware configurations, operating systems, and observing the daily operation of Ruffing and Special Computer Centers. 2. IBM 3081 CPUs Highly Reliable STAT The IBM 3081 CPUs have outperformed all other CPUs combined, including the Amdahls. For the 11-month period of December 1981 through October 9 11 other CPUs had three times as many failures. STAT 3. Computer Center Stairway Under Construction A pre-construction meeting with GSA, Headquarters Engineering Branch, Office of Logistics (HEB/OL), and the contractor for the stairway between the Center and the STAT Annex in 1D16 was held on 2 December. Work started on 7 December and the contract completion date is 16 February 1983. STAT 4. SAFE Early Capability Activities All ADP equipment shipments remain on or ahead of schedule. Five solid state drums were delivered on 7 December. 5. SAFE Status Review The next SAFE Monthly Status Review has been scheduled for 10 December. The management review will be -aL-0830 in the DDA Conference Room. The technical review will be at 1330 in Room 211 at the Ames Building. Excess Burroughs Equipment A meeting was held on 6 December with Burroughs Corporation representatives to discuss the status of our mutual efforts to place within the Intelligence Community the Burroughs computer systems that had become excess with the SAFE Project redirection. Three remaining B6900V systems have yet to be placed. The Burroughs Corporation was represented by Mr. Donald Cole, the SAFE Accounts Manager, and his immediate supervisor, Mr. Philip A. Schlimgen. On Thursday afternoon, 9 December, Stuart Johnson, a Vice President in the Federal and Systems Group at Burroughs Corporation, met with D/ODP on this subject. 7. Applications Moves STAT STAT Th Applications divisions of ODP moved from STAT Building to Building from 2-4 December. STAT Except for a tew minor ioose , the move went successfully and Applications personnel are pleased with their new quarters. The move freed space for needed ion of the Offices of CTAT Logistics and Conmunica ions. 1 7 STAT 8. Significant Events During Coming Week A condensed version of the scenarios used to demonstrate the SAFE user interface to the user organizations will be shown to Mr. Gates (DDI) on 15 December. The Director, Analytic Support Group, received a pre-brief on 9 December. STAT Arrangements for a simi ar briefing to Major General McFadden USA, (DIA/VP), are currently being coordinated.
