8 September 1983
MEMORANDUM FOR: Deputy Director for Administration
Director of Data Processing
SUBJECT: ODP Report for Week Ending 9 September 1983
1. FY 84-86 Central ADP Service Projections
Central ADP service projections for the FY 84-86 time
period were requested for 29 offices and 35 major projects. The
projections are to be made in terms of percentage growth from
FY 82 of central service requirements. This information is
necessary to provide information in our Congressional budget
submission. We must apportion our budget to each of the seven
structural categories in the Agency's budget and identify major
projects expected to consume $250,000 of our resources in any
year during this time frame. Responses are due from Directorate
ADP Control Officers by 30 September.
2. optical Disk White Paper
The Office of Data Processing (ODP) reviewed and
provided comments to the Director of Information Services (D/OIS)
on a White Paper proposing the conversion of magnetic tape stored
at the Agency archives to optical disks. Our reply indicated
that we had serious reservations as to the cost-effectiveness and
reliability of current optical disk technology for production
systems. We, however, offered to join with OIS in more detailed
investigations of optical disk technology.
3. External Procurement

procurement action requests:
in the following external
OTE - Acquisition of a Sony Microcomputer, Model
SMC70, to host language courseware being
developed at the Defense Language Institute.

begun to load CAMS1 data into the P/S production data base
remotely from the TRW W-2 Building.
5. Technical Analysis and Display System (TADS) Manuals to
be Rewritten
The contract with Booz, Allen, and Hamilton to rewrite
the TADS Users Manuals has been negotiated and will be signed
this coming week. The ADP & Engineering Branch, Procurement
Branch, OL (ADP&EB/PD/OL), has authorized Booz, Allen, and
Hamilton to begin work as of 6 September.
6. VM Cable Origination
Work continued on the project to enhance the Message
Processing System (MPS) to handle electronic cable origination.
Work began on the detailed system design changes that will be
made to MPS to accommodate electronic cable origination from VM.
7. Biweekly Payroll System (PAYROLL)
The Biweekly Payroll System currently computes hourly
rates for annual salaried employees by dividing their annual
salary by 2080 hours. Effective 2 October, the number of hours
by which the annual salary is divided will be changed to 2087.
All affected programs have been modified and the office of
Finance (OF) has completed an acceptance test of the system.
8. Significant Events During Coming Weeks
