FY 84-86 Central ADP Service Projections Central ADP service projections for the FY 84-86 time period were requested for 29 offices and 35 major projects. The projections are to be made in terms of percentage growth from FY 82 of central service requirements. This information is necessary to provide information in our Congressional budget submission. We must apportion our budget to each of the seven structural categories in the Agency's budget and identify major projects expected to consume $250,000 of our resources in any year during this time frame. Responses are due from Directorate ADP Control Officers by 30 September. 2. optical Disk White Paper The Office of Data Processing (ODP) reviewed and provided comments to the Director of Information Services (D/OIS) on a White Paper proposing the conversion of magnetic tape stored at the Agency archives to optical disks. Our reply indicated that we had serious reservations as to the cost-effectiveness and reliability of current optical disk technology for production systems. We, however, offered to join with OIS in more detailed investigations of optical disk technology. 3. External Procurement ODP concurred, as per procurement action requests: in the following external OTE - Acquisition of a Sony Microcomputer, Model SMC70, to host language courseware being developed at the Defense Language Institute. OSO - Acquisition of an Arabrite Desk-top Bilingual System with dual language printers. DDO - FY 84 renewal of the level-of-effort contract with IBM for the ALLSTAR upgrade. 4. CAMS2 Production System Turned Over to TRW The CAMS2 (P/S) IBM 3081K production system in the Annex was turned over to TRW on 1 September. TRW has begun to load CAMS1 data into the P/S production data base remotely from the TRW W-2 Building. 5. Technical Analysis and Display System (TADS) Manuals to be Rewritten The contract with Booz, Allen, and Hamilton to rewrite the TADS Users Manuals has been negotiated and will be signed this coming week. The ADP & Engineering Branch, Procurement Branch, OL (ADP&EB/PD/OL), has authorized Booz, Allen, and Hamilton to begin work as of 6 September. 6. VM Cable Origination Work continued on the project to enhance the Message Processing System (MPS) to handle electronic cable origination. Work began on the detailed system design changes that will be made to MPS to accommodate electronic cable origination from VM. 7. Biweekly Payroll System (PAYROLL) The Biweekly Payroll System currently computes hourly rates for annual salaried employees by dividing their annual salary by 2080 hours. Effective 2 October, the number of hours by which the annual salary is divided will be changed to 2087. All affected programs have been modified and the office of Finance (OF) has completed an acceptance test of the system. 8. Significant Events During Coming Weeks The Delivery 2 Preliminary Design Review for SAFE will be held at TRW's W-1 Building in Tysons Corner, Virginia, from 26 through 30 September. Invitations are being sent to approximately 90 attendees. As of 7 September, there were 64 outstanding advances with a dollar value of $30,236. No accounts were delinquent, however, three accounting refunds have fallen into a STAT delinquent status. (U/AIUO) Phase IV Action Items. A memorandum analyzing the results of a preliminary ODP user survey was sent to the DDA Planning Officer. Also included was a summary of a survey of DDS&T ADP Control officers on ODP performance. The latter survey was performed by the DDS&T staff. The memorandum was prepared in response to a DDA request to evaluate office performance to customer requests. The DDA request was included in the Phase IV (of the A ency long-range planning process) Action Item list. STAT (U/AIUO) Administrative Staff STAT STAT Co-Op in ED, and Summer Only in OD, both returned to school on 9 September. (U) Applications A draft statement of work has been prepared that will be the basis of a contract to provide software support for the DIA SAFE Comten systems after the hardware is moved from the Northside Computer Center to the Bolling Air Force Base. A meetin will be STAT held with SPD to finalize the SOW on 8 September. (U) STAT Two Delta Data 7260T terminals were shipped to the Adessa Corporation on 31 August. These terminals will be connected to the unclassified SAFE development system. Adessa is under contract to SPD to provide software that will allow the Delta Data to look like an IBM 3270 terminal enabling the Delta Data to take advantage of IBM 3270 features built in software; specifically the IBM passthrough software. (BLI), to discuss the status of the IDM-500 block multiplexor channel interface board, future IDM enhancements, and training. BLI hopes to have the first production board shipped to W-2 on 3 October. Additional enhancements to the block multiplexor are scheduled for release in February of 1984 and will include better efficiency in the handling of the ORDER-BY and MIN/MAX commands. A DIA Move Plan Meeting was held on 2 September. DIA stated that they did not want TP T-BAR switching systems as part of the SAFE environment supporting terminals. SAFE-D Comtens will interface directly to DIA provided Gandalf switching systems. Configuration and Environmental Management Branch/ED personnel will tour the DIA computer 1' s on 7 September as one of the steps STAT in planning the move. (U) On 2 September, Support Branch/CAMS Division completed final publication of CAMS2 (P/S) Message Processing Document (BLSI-112 Office of Communications Interface Description). This document represents agreements between CAMS Division and OC pertaining to the processing of electronic message header information and messages on magnetic tape. The document will be formally baselined STAT into the CAMS2 (P/S) by a Request for Change. (U) CAMS2 (P/S) Intelligent Data Base Machine (IDM).
