Deceased Agency Employee
REFERENCE: Memorandum from D/Pers to DCI, dated 26 April 1983,
Subject: Death Gratuity for Certain Deceased
Agency Employees
25X1 1. Action Requested: That you authorize payment of a death gratuity to
the authorize a en dent of an Agency employee who died 25X1
2. Background: In the referent memorandum (copy attached), you were asked
to approve payment of death gratuities to the authorized dependents of three Agency
employees who died At that time it was our 25X1
understanding that a dependent child had to be under 18 years of age to qualify for a
death gratuity. Subsequently, however, in the course of drafting a regulation on this
subject, further research by this Office and the Office of General Counsel has resulted
in a determination that a death gratuity may also be paid to a "child" who is a student
under 23 years of age who has not married, has not completed 4 years of education
beyond the high school level, and who is regularly pursuing a full-time course of
study in an accredited institution.
