MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Personnel
FROM: Robert W. Gambino
Director of Security
SUBJECT: Saturday Sales in EAA Store
REFERENCE: Memorandum from Director of Personnel,
dated 10 September 1979, same subject
(PERS 79-5492)
Harry:
1. I appreciate the fact that the season before
Christmas is extremely busy for the EAA Store. I have
no objection to your opening the Store for sales on
Saturday mornings for several weeks before Christmas
as a way of alleviating the holiday congestion.
2. The suggestion to permit an adult member of the
family to accompany the employee on such Saturday sales
days, however, is inconsistent with our desire to restrict
access to Agency facilities to individuals on official
business. As you know, former Director Schlesinger inau-
gurated a program to permit members of an employee's family
to visit our facilities. For a number of reasons we were
forced to reverse this policy about a year ago. Significant
among these reasons was the fact that we found that the
privilege was being abused. Of equal concern was the poten-
tial erosion of cover on the part of our clandestine employees.
3. At the present time, in view of the recent espionage
case, we are exercising even tighter control than in the past
over individuals entering Agency buildings, especially in
nonduty hours. The proposal to allow family members access
to the EAA Store is inconsistent with this initiative.
4. I would be happy to discuss this with you further
personally.
