MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT; Status Report--EAA Store
On this date the Executive Director-Comptroller discussed the report
of 29 April 1969 from the Director of Personnel on the status of the EAA Store.
The Executive Director cited his paper of 1967 wherein he made it plain that
the EAA Store was to be managed and operated out of its own profits and he
expected this action to be taken in accordance with that formula. I advised
that I had in mind a briefing on the EAA Store operation to go into this matter
in full detail. The Executive Director raised the question of managment and
supervision of the Store, the auditing of its accounts, and noted the profit of
$23, 000 and the question as to why the manager could not be paid out of this
profit. He further raised the question of operating the Store on a concession
basis and, if this poses serious problems, then why not set up a controlling
mechanism or board which would run and operate the Store on a profit basis.
