Dear captain Ford:
Reference is made to your memorandum of June 14, 1948, in
which you state that CIA is willing to provide support for five
additional positions in the grade CAF-2, to enable the Department
of State to make more adequate distribution of intelligence in-
formation to CIA and lAC agencies.
The Department of State gratefully accepts the assistance
offered by CIA as indicated in your memorandum. We agree that
it would be most feasible for CIA to employ the personnel on its
rolls and to place them under operational supervision of the
Department of State.
The Department will be glad to select the personnel and to
subject them to the same security investigation as we habitually
make for personnel employed in the type of work involved in these
positions. Of, if you prefer, CIA may make the investigations,
in which case, our security people would appreciate the privilege
of seeing the results. I have requested the Chief, Division of
Departmental Personnel, of the Department, to coordinate the ad-
ministrative details of this action with the officials designated
by you in your memorandum.
I wish to express the appreciation of the Department for
the cooperation and assistance of the Central Intelligence Agency
in this matter.
