Approved For Release 2005/12/14: CIA-RDP85-00988R000100060019-6 S E C R E T December 6, 1982 1. The LIMS system is envisioned as a network of ADP ter- minals within Agency facilities in the Washington metropolitan area, through which all local Agency customers can input materiel and service requests to the OL support system. In essence, these terminals will electronically link customers and system users to expedite the flow of requirements and the exchange of information. The system will require the use of line printers, graphics terminals, communication links and the equipment necessary to support these linkages. In the long term it is anticipated that, as overseas communications are improved, remotely located customers, using office automation equipment already in place, will be able to directly input their request. 2. The current developmental activity within LIMS embraces the necessity to define requirements for system software. No substantive identification of system hardware requirements has yet been undertaken, for two reasons: system IOC will not occur until mid-FY 85; as currently conceived, LIMS will use ODP mainframe CPUs and the network of terminals, line printers and peripherals in place at that time--plus additional ter- minals and printers as may be required, over and above the then existing facilities. It is premature to forecast LIMS hardware requirements for FY-85 and beyond, in light of planned ADP equipment growth during the interim period. An example of an early hardware requirements package for a specific location is attached; by IOC some of this equipment may already be in place and in use for other than the specific LIMS application. This example will undoubtedly apply to many Headquarters installa- tions. In sum, LIMS is a software package to be applied to ODP's hardware facilities and capabilities. 25X1 WARNING NOTICE INTELLIGENCE SOURCES OR METHODS INVOLVED S E C R E T Approved For Release 2005/12/14: CIA-RDP85-00988R000100060019-6
