SUBJECT Annual Report on Energy Management (U)
REFERENCE Memo dated 1 March 1979 to rom

Use (OL 9-0788)
1. As requested by the reference, below are listed
some representative examples of energy saving programs which
carried out during the past year: (S)
l IL _L u
with the installation of storm windowsandstormsdoors
on seven buildings.
b. insulated an attic for an estimated saving
of $275.00.
c. replaced 25 window air conditioner units.
d. replaced two 47-ton water cooled packaged
water chillers-with two 47-ton air-cooled packaged
water chillers. Higher EER values in the new units
resulted in reduced KWH consumption which we estimate
saved $675.00.
2. Further, as requested by the reference, we have
set forth below our energy conservation objectives with
attendant anticipated monetary savings figures. The dollar
amounts indicated are estimated and are based on current
energy costs. (S)

a. In our continuing program to set thermostats
in compliance with current executive guidelines (in-
cluding the installation of automatic set-back type therm- 25X1
ostats in some areas), we estimate non-usage of energy
amounting to $ nnn nn

b. By the consolidation of job tasking to reduce
road mileage, we estimate a gasoline savings of $275.00
per annum.
c. In our continuing program of replacing incan-
descent lighting fixtures with fluorescent types and
in reducing lamp sizes in various buildings not
warranting original design candlepower, as well as
replacing exterior incandescent lighting fixtures with
lower wattage, mercury vapor lighting fixtures, we
estimate an annual energy savings of $500.00.
d. In our continuing program for incorporating
thermal insulation in building spaces undergoing
renovation, we estimate an energy savings of $300.00
per annum.
e. In two FY '78 contracts we incorporated "economy
cycles" as well as energy-efficient equipment in the
design and installation of HVAC systems, resulting in an
estimated annual energy savings of $1200.00.
f. In our continuing program to maintain existing
HVAC systems at peak operating condition in order to
obtain maximum efficiency, we estimate an energy savings
of $300.00 per annum.
g. By amplifying the slogan "Please Conserve" to
improve employee awareness of energy conservation, we
estimate an annual energy savings of $350.00. Small
locally-produced "Please Conserve" signs will be placed
on all window air-conditioning units and all gang light
switches.
h. We have turned off pilot burners on gas-fired
heating equipment during summer for an estimated energy
savings of $50.00 per annum.
i. Through FY '79 service contract ill have a 25X1
water treatment program for heating and coo ing water
systems in order to obtain maximum heat/cooling transfer
in heat exchangers. The energy savings is estimated to
be $1800.00 annually.
