Approved For F ase 2005/08/02 : CIA-RDP85-00988E ,01001001 ENERGY SUMMERTIME MEMO FRi YOUR I NDIARD General Services Administration National Capital Region Because the nation's energy problems are becoming more serious each passing day, the President has called for an additional 5 percent reduction in energy usage this year by the federal government. To help achieve it, federal thermostats will be set at 80 degrees Fahrenheit. While this may be a little warmer than we're used to, with a patri- otic effort we can set an example for the rest of the nation. To help, each department or agency has been asked to name an Energy Conservation Coordinator, and an Energy Monitor with whom you can deal in person. Their names and telephone numbers are posted in the lobby of your building. You can help by providing additional energy conservation ideas to your coordinator. The best will be passed along for all to use. For some cool strategies to help right now, see the following: + Wear loose, light and informal clothing. + Keep the blinds closed when the sun is on your side of the building to prevent heating. + Open the blinds and turn off the lights when the sun another side of the building to keep it cool and to save electricity. + Turn out lights during momentary absences. Tests prove it conserves. + Use office machines such as copiers and typewriters less, and when not in use, turn them off. + Rernenber! Energy savings = $ savings. Your efforts will be appreciated.
