All services which are now received within the Office of logistics are adequate and should be continued at the same level except in the follow- ing instances: a. Procurement Division - A black phone instrument located in the25X1A T Fail and Files Control Unit can be eliminated prior to FY 1977 jI phone is located in Room 1033, Ames Center Building, extension When the requirement ceases to exist, an appropriate telephone request will be submitted. b. Printing Services Division PSD) - A minimal secure voice com- munication line between main PSD and Headquarters wilding will be required in FY 1977. Accordingly, we will need one master unit and telephone line. A call director and six "slave" instruments will not be necessary, 2. It is expected that within the next 2 years (FY 1976 and 1977) PSD will have need for a network of data links from all Agency publishers to PSD/General Printing Plant (GPP) for access to the upcoming computer-assisted text editing photographic composition system. The following are considered vital requirements for FY 1977: a. Data link from major publishers in Headquarters Buildin , in- cluding Office of Current Intelligence, Office of the Director (O/DCI), National Intelligence Officers (NIO), Office of Economic Research, etc., to PSD/GPP composing system to provide faster, more efficient production of intelligence reports. b. Data link from PSD/GPP to PS0 main plant, either through the Office of Joint Computer Support (OJCS) or direct, to provide backup support to GPP composing system and to provide parallel processing capabilities during peak workload periods. c. Data links from OJCS to PSD main printing plant for use: (1) With proposed PSD management information system, (2) In expediting production of computer output microfilm, and (3) In providing faster and more efficient photocomposition of Agency publications. 3. CIA; P -p 9888000400080028-1 Communications Requirements for FY 1977-81 a. Data link from high priority customers (Publications Staff, Deputy Director for Intelligence; 0/DC1. NID, etc.) to PSD for facsimile transmission and laser platemaking to accommodate high-speed printing of intelligence reports. b. Data link from CIA Operations Center to PSO for facsimile transmission of continuous tone negatives for instant reproduction and dissemination to top CIA officials. c. Date link from OJCS to PSD/GPP which will be necessary in upanding capabilities of the computer-assisted text editing photo- graphic composition system. 4. While the final Implementation of the above requirements will mire additional studies and are, to a large degree, dependent upon the plans of PSD customers; it is felt that establishment of data links as envisaged are essential in fulfilling existing and future Agency needs to provide greater efficiency in printing operations of the future.
