SUBJECT: New Computer Programs for CRD
REFERENCE: Proposals Given C/ITB on 7/29/80
1. We have reviewed the three proposals you discussed with Les
and me on 29 July 1980.
2. First of all on the activity report, RMD has promised C/CRD to
provide CRD with some statistical capability using the computer. We
are waiting for C/CRD to get back to us with requirements for such a
capability. If the sample activity report and related explanations you
gave us represent the needs of CRD we should get together with Gay (the
designated CRD/ADP contact and start discussing reporting formats,
frequency, etc.).
3. As for the manuscript and FRUS request, I do not believe OIS
should attempt to design a computer system for an activity in which
OIS is only one of many components concerned, at least not until we have
coordinated the "total Agency" needs for these programs. It seems to me
STATINTLthat since PRB has program responsibility - for the publication
review that they should carry the ball on any automated system to assist
in the review process. In fact they are thinking of such a system.
Additionally, as you know, there are five other components reviewing
these publications and the DDA deletions are considerably less than the
other components which makes it even more important to include all components
in the systems and not just CRD. The same is true for the FRUS. As
you pointed out in your memo, DO/IMS is also involved in this review and
I believe any system concerning it should be coordinated with the D0.
