SUBJECT: Certification of the Extension of Classification on
Documents Systematically Reviewed Under Executive
Order 12065 During the Period 1 January to 31 July 1982
REFERENCE: Section 3-401 of Executive Order 12065
1. The Classification Review Division, Office of Information Services,
has conducted the systematic classification review of Agency documents 20
years old or older as required by Executive Order 12065. The results of the
review have been recorded in the Declassification and Review (DARE) computer
system. This record includes the identification of documents that require
continued protection beyond 20 years (30 years in the case of foreign
government information) to protect national security interests. Only the
head of an agency can certify that continued protection is necessary. You
previously certified to the continued protection for documents systematically
reviewed and entered into the DARE system during 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981.
The attached certification statement covers documents requiring continued
protection that were reviewed under E.O. 12065 and entered into the DARE
system between 1 January and 31 July 1982. On 1 August 1982 E.O. 12065 was
superseded by E.O. 12356 which does not require such certifications.
2. We hereby request that you certify to the need for continued protection
of documents that were reviewed between 1 January 1982 and 31 July 1982
and recor ed in the DARE system as requiring continued protection under the
following exemptions:

review.

SUBJECT: Certification of Classification Extensions
Recorded in the DARE System
I hereby certify that the classification extensions resulting from the
systematic review provisions of Executive Order 12065 and recorded in the
Declassification and Review (DARE) system between 1 January and 31 July 1982
are necessary for the protection of the national security interests of the
United States of America. I am cognizant of the nature of the review
process and reasons for continued classification, and I have personally
