IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES MAY 20 (legislative day, MAY 11), 1982 Mr. DANFORTH (for himself and Mr. CHILES) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Governmental Affairs A BILL To require that furniture and decorative accessories for use in offices of certain officers of the Government be procured by the Administrator of General Services, and for other pur- poses. 1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 2 fives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 That this Act may be cited as the "Furniture Purchase Re- 4 imbursement Act of 1982". 5 SEc. 2. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, all 6 furniture and decorative accessories to be used in any office 7 of any officer of the Government appointed by the President, 8 by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall be Approved For Release 2007/07/12 : CIA-RDP85B00552R001000080021-1 Approved For Release 2007/07/12 : CIA-RDP85B00552R001000080021-1 ? S 2 1 procured by the Administrator of General Services, unless 2 such requirements can be met by- 3 -?'(1)-excess property available through the Federal 4 Property Resources Service, or directly from another 5 agency, or, 6 (2) new items available from regular sources of 7 supply maintained by the Federal Supply Service, Pro- 8 vided, That the Administrator of General Services may 9 authorize the competitive procurement of such furniture 10 or decorative accessory by the agency after approving 11 the specific requirement therefor. 12 SEc. 3. Any officer of the Government appointed as de- 13 scribed in section 2 who procures or causes to have procured 14 furniture or decorative accessories in violation of section 2 15 shall be personally liable for any expense to the Government 16 incurred in procuring the furniture or decorative accessories. 17 SEc. 4. This Act shall take effect with respect to pur- 18 chases of, and contracts entered into for, furniture or decora- 19 tive accessories after the date of enactment of this Act. 0 Approved For Release 2007/07/12 : CIA-RDP85B00552R001000080021-1
