The Domestic Networks Division regrires a significant amount
of additional space during the next five years as recapitalization
occurs and replacement systems are developed, installed and. tested.
This period of high space needs will culrninate with tl~e installation
of the new systems in the new Headq uarters Building and scranpin~
of existing systems. Sufficient space in the existing Headquarters
Building will not be available for this process. Only 4,!100 scruare

is occupied.
II. Specific Space Needs:
1. MERCURY: 3,000 square feet is required for equipment
installation. Space for contractors and training is also required
for a total requirement of 6,000 square feet.
2. Message Handling Facility (MHF) will require 2,500 square
feet for equipment and 2,500 for contractors and training for a
total of 5,000 square feet.
3. LAN development for new building.
4. NPIC development program technical support.
5. Logistic space for staging of domestic recapitalization
equipment. Space to store wire and other materials to avoid clutter
in t}le Headquarters' hallways. Approximately 15,000 square feet is
required.

telephone switch.
8. OC requires room to establish a IVatch Office and require merits

required for the establishment of a domestic ficlc? grou~~ and a
metropolitan group.

III. Action Plan if
Leased:
1. Acquire building - renovation work to be kept to minimum.
Obtain used furniture. OC install essential communications, e.g.
microwave link for r~ERCURY communications. l)PS po~~~er will he
required. (Expanded UPS would also be required if installed.
MERCURY and MHF in Headquarters Building.)
2. Move Chief, DND
3. Move P?1etropolitan and Field Croups to ~~ freeing
