MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Development and Engineering
Director of Data Processing
SUBJECT: WANG Device Access to Established Systems
REFERENCE: Your memo, same subject, dtd 18 Feb 1983
1. We are very much aware of the desirability of using the WANG word
processors as terminals connected to our systems, and have examined the
feasibility of this. While the use of WANG devices as terminals remains a
long term goal of ODP, the substantial effort required to provide an effective
WANG terminal interface means we are unable at this time to meet your request.
2. We currently have under development software which will permit the
transmission of files between the ODP network and WANG devices. The software
is being developed in stages, and the first increment, due this month, will
enable files to be transmitted to the VM system and converted into SCRIPT. By
means of this facility, and the complimentary VM to WANG link, you could make
effective use of the WANG devices for data input and output while using Delta
Datas for interactive access.
(Chief, Systems Programming Division, will contact
for further discussions.
