(S) Reference (a) directed, inter alia, that the Secretary of Defense act as executive agent for Project MEDUSA and indicated the Defense - Secretary's agreement to establish the project within the Defense Communications Agency.- Reference (a) further directed that each participating Federal department or agency assign representatives to the MEDUSA Project Office (MPO). Reference (b) provided a further delineation of the Project MEDUSA responsibilities within the Department of Defense. 2. (S) The purpose of this memorandum is to request that each participating federal: department or agency assign a representative to the MEDUSA Project Office, consistent with their responsiblity in Tier I of Project MEDUSA. 3. (C) In the course of our system development effort, we have identified a wide range of activities which must be accomplished for each Tier I node. Project representatives are responsible for assisting the MPO in the planning and coordination of the Crisis Information and Management System (CIMS) implementation pertaining to their own department or agency. The* activities under the general scope of tasks to be addressed by the department/agency representatives are listed in enclosure 1. - 4. (C) The MPG and agency representatives will work together to develop a coordinated schedule for CIMS implementation. A secure work area is being made available in a special facility in the Defense Communications Agency (DCA) Headquarters building, Eighth and South Courthouse Road, Arlington,' VA, for use by CIMS personnel as required. As directed, the MPO is responsible for overall project management and coordination as well as technical assistance to the agency representatives.
