Approved For Release 2008/05/14: CIA-RDP85B01152RO01001310040-0 DD/A Registry. CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY WASHINGTON. D.C. 20505 6 JUN 1983 Mr. Albert N. Rhodes Comptroller Defense Mapping Agency U.S. Naval Observatory Washington, D.C. 20305 Thank you for your letter (U-5766/CMD, dated 13 May 1983) requesting transfer of two CIA-owned Burroughs B6900 computer systems to the Defense Mapping Agency. I am pleased to inform you, on behalf of the CIA, that your request has been approved and the transfer of ownership is being initiated. As you are aware, these Burroughs systems became available for reassignment with the redirection of CIA's SAFE Project. As per the contract settlement agreement, CIA has been actively assisting Burroughs Corporation in locating Intelligence Community (IC) or related agencies with suitable requirements for these systems. I am particularly pleased that the systems will provide a timely solution to critical DMA requirements and will also result in cost avoidance for your agency. For your information in estimating this overall cost avoidance, these systems were acquired by CIA at a combined cost of $538,840, which was 30 percent of the list price based on the FY-1982 GSA Schedule. The two B6900's are yours to use to satisfy the requirements in the reference at no cost to your agency, except for the shipping and installation charge described below. The systems in question are located at the Burroughs Corporation test facility in Paoli, Pennsylvania. They are identified by Burroughs Corporation as the "UTS-1" and "SCM-1" processor systems with associated peripherals. Since the Government has yet to take possession of the systems, all new system warranties should remain in effect. We must ask that DMA assume responsibility for any charges associated with shipping and installation of the equipment. In order to schedule for these activities, we request you work directly with the Burroughs Corporation. Mr. Philip Schlimgen, Branch Manager, Office of Secretary of Defense/Intelligence and Security, Standard Products Group, Burroughs Corporation, can provide you with the required assistance. Mr. Schlimgen may be reached on (703) 821-0239. Upon receipt of the equipment, we would also appreciate a formal acknowledgment indicating your acceptance of accountability.
