SUBJECT: Chilled Water Outage/Support to the SAFE
Computer Center
1. The Director of the Consolidated SAFE Project Office
has expressed concern regarding the potentially serious impact
on the services provided by Project SAFE as a result of planned
chilled water outages. It is our understanding that five
outages in the next 12 months are"currently planned by
Headquarters Engineering Branch, each a minimum of 45 hours.
During these times, services from the SAFE Center will not be
available. In addition to the outage time required by the
Office of Logistics, an additional 8-10 hours will be required
by Office of Data Processing personnel after each outage to
make the SAFE systems fully operational.
2. While the Northside Computer Center does not yet
support the same number of users as the Buffing Computer
Center, it is an operational center supporting the DDI. We
also have a commitment to provide reliable and timely service
to the DIA until it moves to its new building in April-May
1984. Consequently, some means must be found to minimize, if
not eliminate the impact upon critical SAFE services to the DDI
and DIA.
