SUBJECT : Declassification of President Kennedy's Letter to
the Chairman of USIB Commending the Intelligence
Community for Outstanding Service During the
Cuban Crisis
1, The subject letter from President Kennedy to Mr. McCone
as Chairman of USIB dated 9 January 1963, and the letter of transmittal
from Mr, McCone to each USIB member dated 22 January 1963, have
now been declassified with the agreement of Mr. McCone. This action
has also been noted by Mr. Helms as the present Director of Central
Intelligence.
2. The declassification of these letters was undertaken at the
request of the CIA Office of Training to permit unclassified use for
training purposes.
3. The attached copies of the declassified letters are circulated
herewith for USIB information and reference.
