UNITED STATES INTELLIGENCE BOARD
22 January 1963
In the accompanying letter, the President asks me to express to you
as a member of the United States Intelligence Board and to your intel-
ligence colleagues not only his commendation, but the appreciation of
our Nation for the exceptional effort and gratifying results attained during
the crisis we recently faced. In outprofession, such thoughts are not
often presented to us in a way that permits us to convey them to those
whose professional competence and dedication continue despite crises and
emergencies.
Therefore, I ask that you inform the members of your organization
of the President's commendation for the service they have rendered our
Nation. In addition, please also accept my appreciation for the contri-
bution you and your associates have made toward accomplishing the
responsibilities placed on me.
It is my sincere wish that the President's approbation be made known
to all who participated in our recent period of trial, but in such manner
that it becomes a personal compliment to each, rather than a matter of
public announcement. Your cooperation in assuring that the President's
message receives the privileged handling required of such a communication
will be greatly appreciated.
