Requirements
for WANG Equipment
1. Based on discussions with) (concerning the STAT
recent demonstration of the DEST optical c aracter rea er, am convinced that
such a device would significantly facilitate my staff's ability to handle
congressional questions and answers and satisfy other requirements that are
key to the success of the CPB computer system described in the references.
2. So that we can have the desired capability in place by this fall, I
request that you initiate the necessary procurement as soon as possible for
the OCR and associated WANG telecommunications interface. I propose that the
device be collocated with the WANG workstation currently being installed in
room 4S12.
3. The estimated purchase cost is approximately $12,500 for the OCR and
$1,000 for the WANG commommunications board, with annual maintenance costs of
about $1,300. Please call if you have any questions.
